At its October meeting, the Corporation formally accepted $20 million in donations of $1 million or more. Among the new gifts were: $7 million for the planned Creative Arts Building; $3.7 million for the Nelson Fitness Center; $3.25 million for undergraduate scholarships; $3 million for graduate fellowships in the humanities; $1.78 million for international advanced research institutes; $1.1 million for athletics; and $600,000 for the Brown Annual Fund....

The evening before, rededication ceremonies were held at Pembroke Hall, which has recently reopened after a $9 million renovation.... The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation granted $3 million to Brown for expanding support of graduate education in the humanities.... The University received a $12 million grant from the National Institute of Child Health and Development to expand its role in the National Children's Study, which follows children from before birth to age twenty-one in order to sort out the genetic, psychosocial, biological, and environmental influences on their health and development.
