Friends since ’96, Michael Mancuso ’98 (right) and Michael Rubin ’00 have called more than 700 sporting events for Brown Athletics, dating back to 2001. On their busiest days, they’re sprinting from back-to-back lacrosse games at Stevenson Field to a hockey game in Meehan Auditorium. Rubin does play-by-play; Mancuso adds the color commentary. Outside of the press box Rubin, a self-described “talker,” is a high school principal. Mancuso, a chief financial officer and controller, claims to be “naturally quiet.” “Mike and Mike,” as fans call them, share more than their names. As sports editor for the BDH, Mancuso, then a junior, recruited Rubin, a freshman, to cover track and field and baseball. Rubin succeeded him as BDH sports editor. Each married just months apart and their children are close in age. “The best part of the job is when parents come to the press box,” says Rubin, “to say, you’re the connection to our child.”
