In the Chair

March 3rd, 2017

For more than 100 years, from 1904 to 2006, students could get their hair cut right in the basement of Faunce House. And for 60 of those years, barber Lawrence “Larry” Picerno was the man wielding scissors and razor. “He’d sharpen it on this leather strap on the back of the chair, and then he’d take the hair off the back of your neck,” remembers Vernon Rosario ’04, pictured here as an undergrad receiving Picerno’s artistry. “He was a very nice, friendly guy, and it was the cheapest thing around.” Rosario, a child psychiatrist in Los Angeles, now visits a stylist instead of a barber. But, he says, “she’s almost equally cheap.”

Did Larry Picerno cut your hair? Tell us about it in the comments section below.
