On Oct. 27, Andromeda (Andie) Web Lichtman came into this world weighing 7 pounds, 13 ounces, joining her sister Winifred, age 7. Her parents are Hilary Gerstein ’03 and Martin Lichtman ’01. Needless to say there will be no pressure to join the ranks of alumnae when it’s time to apply to college.”

Terri Landon Bacow writes: “I am excited to announce the publication of my new book Goodbye, Anxiety: A Guided Journal for Overcoming Worry. I started writing this book in the summer of 2020 and the panic at that moment provided plenty of inspiration. The book is a guided journal filled with scientifically based anxiety management strategies and coping skills for tweens, teens, and young adults (and their parents). It is published by Spruce Books, an imprint of Sasquatch/A Penguin Random House company. The book will help readers identify anxiety triggers, change unhelpful thinking patterns, and develop healthy mental habits such as self-compassion. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the book or my work as a psychologist. I currently live in New York City with my husband and two children and can be reached at tbacow@gmail.com.”
Bob Kerrigan writes: “Having just finished my rereading of Melville’s Bartleby the Scrivener, I wish to report that I have been practicing law for 50 years in and about New York City. I have no plans on retiring, nor do I wish to. Where does a lawyer retire to? Please be kind in your thoughts, or responses, to that rhetorical question. As a solo practitioner, my law practice includes unusual specialties, one of which concerns legal issues in the worldwide business of the distribution and sale of cut flowers. I have been an NGO representative at the UN and an arbitrator at the NASD. Still married to my bride of 50 years, we have two daughters, one of the Brown Class of 1999, and the other a graduate of Trinity College, two sons-in-law (really good guys), and four grandchildren, the eldest of whom is applying to college next year. Where? When asked by my five-year-old granddaughter what “I like and dislike,” I answered as to dislikes (carefully avoiding listing all) and to my granddaughter’s shock and dismay: whipped cream and maple syrup. Now my likes—growing roses without chemicals, doing yard work, walking, swimming, sailing, watching Masterpiece Theater and Frontline on PBS, sometimes tuning in to Chris Hayes ’01 on MSNBC, and reading nonfiction—including, but just sometimes, the AARP magazine. Almost forgot, I do not like using gerunds. I have heard, but cannot confirm, that the Class of 1970 is called the lost one. I can understand—but WHY?”
Luke Cunningham published his first novel, LEO, Inventor Extraordinaire, a children’s book about a genius kid inventor at a school for gifted orphans. He calls the novel “a direct result of his humanities education at Brown.”

Courtney Maum writes that her short story, This Is Not Your Fault, “has debuted as an Audible Original with an ensemble cast. Alternating between a divorcing husband and wife’s legal paperwork and coparenting forms and braided with desperate missives from overeager lawyers, the short story is a portrait of a strained marriage in an unprecedented time that explores the ways in which materialism can lead us far astray. You can listen via Audible.”

I thought it would be a nice change of scenery for a year or two before I moved back to the Northeast, but here I still am, enjoying the perpetual sunshine. In addition to heading up the school’s academic program, I also teach U.S. Government, Comparative Government, Criminal Justice, and a class on 9/11—which makes a bit of cosmic sense, given that my first day ever as a teacher was 9/12/01.”

Jabberwocks Alumni Association President James Rich writes: “Calling All Jabberwocks Alumni—The 70th reunion of the Jabberwocks will be held on campus at Brown over commencement weekend, May 24-26. Don’t miss this next quinquennial opportunity to join Jabberwocks alumni spanning seven decades in celebrating the 70th anniversary of the group’s founding in 1949. There will be plenty of merriment, food, and drink, and of course singing over two splendid days on campus.”
Al Gerstein is looking forward to the reunion. He writes: “I think I can still do the walk down the hill and up again to the green without requiring any medical care. As to what’s happening of any consequence in our immediate lives: had our first trip to Hawaii and paid our respects at the World War II memorial. Even though I was much too young to serve, I was old enough to appreciate what was going on then. Naomi is maintaining a small psychotherapy practice while I’ve been fully retired for six years. We’re still spending the three winter months at Longboat Key, and three summer weeks in Maine. Still driving without any problems. My only real complaint is an increased word-finding difficulty. I’m taking an American History course at Penn and have immersed myself in family genealogy. I can cover eight generations on both sides of my family. It’s a nice obsessive pursuit that substitutes for my past involvement in applicant interviewing, in which I was quite active for the past 20 years. I gave that up this year. It was time. Finally, to enrich our golden years we are very involved with our youngest granddaughter, Winnie, whose parents (Hilary Gerstein ’03 and Marty Lichtman ’01) have lived quite nearby for the past three years.”

Press. She writes: "I collaborated with a paper conservator, Kimberly Nichols, on some of the research, so the volume includes a short essay on her innovative scientific findings as well. The show offered a modern take on early printed artwork and related objects in other media, demonstrating that these 'old masters' were anything but sacrosanct! From pop-up anatomy flap prints to censored images, early printmaking was interactive in many fascinating ways."
