Brown Bear sets new record in the javelin

Erin McMeniman ’22 extended her Bears career by a few weeks when she won a coveted spot at June’s NCAA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon (above), where she earned Honorable Mention All-America accolades with a 24th place finish. The javelin thrower is no stranger to acclaim—while most athletes may dream of becoming record-holders at least once, McMeniman broke University records three times in the 2021-22 academic year alone. Those throws included the 168-foot hurl at the NCAA East Preliminary competition on May 26 in Bloomington, Indiana, that scored her the trip to the championships and set (yet another) new Bears benchmark—the first time in program history that any athlete topped the 50-meter mark in the javelin.
