A new book for kids ages 9 and up

Have I Ever Told You Black Lives Matter?, a new book for kids ages 9 and up by Shani Mahiri King ’95, follows on the heels of King’s 2019 children’s book Have I Ever Told You? Illustrated with bold, bright graphics by award-winning graphic designer Bobby C. Martin Jr., the book is a joyous celebration of important Black innovators in all endeavors from science and the arts to politics and sports. Toni Morrison, Louis Armstrong, Misty Copeland, Barack Obama, Serena Williams, and John Lewis are just a few of the 116 Black role models featured. A law professor at the University of Florida, King wrote the book for his nine-year-old daughter and six-year-old son. “I wrote this book for my children and for all children,” he says, “who need an inspirational voice grounded in their own history.
