When President Christina Paxson tells us that Brown’s administration will partially relocate to the other side of the Providence River, many of the BAM’s older readers will be baffled (“Connections,” From the President, March/April). What “Providence River”?
When I first arrived at Brown, Providence boasted of having the world’s widest bridge: Providence had completely covered over, and thereby hidden, the portion of the Providence River that actually flowed through the city. It wasn’t until years later that the river was uncovered, disclosed, titivated, and given its current role of tourist attraction.
