John Krasinski ’01, below left, makes his writing debut in this winter’s The Promised Land, which he cowrote with Matt Damon, right. Gus Van Sant, center, directed. It’s about two outsiders who arrive at a rural Pennsylvania town: Damon to lease rights for fracking, and Krasinski to protect the environment. They describe the movie as Capra-esque. ”What we wanted to do is flag the responsibility of each and every one of us with each and every issue,” Krasinski told the L.A. Times. “The idea is, is there a benefit to doing what we’re doing and at what cost? Is it worth it?”
