Two-State Solution

July 15th, 2011

I feel compelled to respond to the negative characterization of J Street by Peter Goldman '60 in his letter (Mail Room, March/April). Far from being an "extreme, anti-Israel Jewish organization," J Street supports a two-state solution—a negotiated resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict leading to two states standing side by side as the best way for Israel to have long-term peace and security. This is hardly an "extreme" view, as polls commissioned by the American Jewish Committee over the past decade have consistently shown that a majority of American Jews support a two-state solution, as do a majority of Israelis. J Street's national conference last February in Washington, D.C., drew more than 2,000 attendees, including eight current Brown students who were joined by Brown alumni Judy Kaye '78, cofounder and cochair of J Street's Rhode Island chapter, and me, a member of J Street Boston.
