The fine article by Norman Boucher gives great insight into the work of the remarkable young historian Karl Jacoby '87 ("Historian of Memory," September/October). Brown is lucky—and proud, I'm sure—to have him in its history department. Last April I read Jacoby's Shadows at Dawn, and, because I live in Tucson, chose to visit Aravaipa Canyon before attending my 50th reunion in May. I visited with Professor Jacoby after attending the history department's graduation ceremony and was very pleased to hear the announcement that he had been promoted to full professor. I eagerly await his next book, but his type of exacting scholarship takes time. The result, I am confident, will be well worth the wait.
