It's not every week that a biology professor is asked to appear onNPR's "Science Friday" and then three days later on Comedy Central's Colbert Report. That happened to Kenneth R. Miller '70 in June after the publication of Only a Theory, his latest attempt to make peace between science and faith. "He gives arespectful and even sympathetic account of [intelligent design], thenoffers lucid explanations for why the theory doesn't hold water," saidthe New Scientist. "Readers put off by the anti-religioussentiments of evolution's most outspoken defenders can take comfort inMiller's benevolent prose. The book is strongest when Miller isdebunking ID, and for this it's a must-read, but it loses steam when heargues that our lives are instilled with value because the universe issomehow 'primed for human life.'"
