Louella Hill ’03, who works in dining services promoting local produce, dropped by the BAM this winter to drop off “Ripe,” a wall calendar she helped create. Picture twelve months of Brown students posing tastefully nude with tasty vegetables and seasonal recipes. For the August page, members of the women’s soccer team (see photo) posed with cantaloupes balanced on their lower backs. A portobello mushroom capped a pair of knees for March. The idea, Hill said, came in response to students’ questions about when various fruits and vegetables are in season: Why don’t you serve local asparagus in November? enquiring minds wanted to know. The calendars are available at the Brown Bookstore; all proceeds go to a Providence community land trust.
