The Campaign Reporter advertising supplement in the May/June BAM brought long-awaited confirmation of the Nelson Fitness Center, a $45 million fitness facility to be built between OMAC and Meehan Auditorium. Although the Center will be a boon for Brown, I am disappointed that the jogging track apparently has been eliminated from the plans, probably because of financial constraints. Walking or jogging is the preferred mode of exercise for older folks in the Brown community, and the track in OMAC is simply not a substitute for a dedicated jogging track, which is a standard feature in virtually all new fitness facilities.
Perhaps it is not too late to reconsider this decision.
