"We had an absolute ball." "We wouldn't change a thing for the thirty-fifth." Those are just two of the many comments we heard from the 108 classmates and sixty-six spouses and guests who flocked to campus for our thirtieth reunion. The reunion started Friday evening with dinner at the Faculty Club and ended with our march down College Hill on Monday morning.
In between we enjoyed a class luncheon with Chancellor Emeritus Artemis Joukowsky '55. As reunion gift cochairs, Josef Mittlemann and I presented Artie with a check for more than $4 million. This included $336,537 for the Brown Annual Fund. We are still short of our annual-fund goal, and it is not too late to give. The luncheon was followed by a class forum, "Congested Intersections Following the Turn of the Century: Managing the Collisions of Health Care, Information Technology, and the Law." Thanks to organizer and panelist Mark Blumenkranz; moderator Sue Farrell; and panelists Don Abrams, Rick Johnson, and Professor Andy van Dam. Saturday evening we ate dinner under the tent at Aldrich House before the pops concert. About a dozen of our former professors joined us for cocktails and dinner.
Sunday morning we enjoyed a sumptuous brunch under a tent at Maddock Alumni Center. The Rev. Bertrice Wood conducted an emotional memorial service for our thirty deceased classmates. Then we were off to the Haffenreffer Museum in Bristol for a clambake and back to Providence for cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and WaterFire.
There were a lot of tired, but very happy, classmates marching down the Hill the next morning. Class president George Billings and I led the procession as aides to the chief marshal. Eileen Rudden, president-elect of the Brown Alumni Association, was the class marshal and led a group of twenty-five classmates.
