Women’s crew rowed to three gold medals at the Henley Regatta at Henley-on-Thames, England, in June. The varsity squad, competing in open eights, defeated the University of London by four lengths in the semifinals before thrashing Texas by sixteen seconds in the finals. The second varsity eight struck gold by winning six races over three days, culminating with a thirty-two-and-one-half-length victory over City of Oxford in the final. An alumni four team also captured a gold medal, with a crew consisting of Maria Raymond ’02 at stroke, Jessica Lanning ’02 in the number-three seat, Jill Filipek ’03 at two, Rosie Branson-Gill ’03 in bow, and Misha Joukowsky ’87 at coxswain. The varsity’s gold-medal triumph earned it an automatic berth in the Remenham Cup event at the Royal Henley Regatta in early July, where the women defeated University of London-Tideway Scullers in the quarterfinals before being overpowered by the Australian national team in the semifinals.… Holly Robertson ’05 was chosen for the Canadian junior national women’s basketball team.… Former men’s soccer star Cory Gibbs ’02 played his first game for the U.S. national team in June.… The U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association named men’s lacrosse attackman Jon Thompson ’03 a 2003 honorable mention All-American and an Academic All-American in June.
