Art by the Ton

If slashes of dripping paint could be pulled off a canvas and magnified, the result would look something like Brushstrokes, the latest sculpture to find a temporary home on campus. The thirty-foot, 3,400-pound sculpture by Roy Lichtenstein features a banana-yellow-and-black crown of aluminum perched atop two intersecting arches of blue and green metal. The work, on display behind MacMillan Hall, was completed in 1996, the year before Lichtenstein’s death. Before arriving at Brown, Brushstrokes was featured in an exhibition on the roof of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
