E. Butler Moulton JR. '39, of New York City, died on September 26. in October 1997 he sent the BAM a letter that included information to print at the time of his death. "Being without direct issue at the age of 80," he wrote, "I thought I'd send a few notes for a possible obituary. It's the first thing I turn to when I receive your fine magazine. The burning issues of the day, as in my own years at Brown, are strangely recurrent and equally transitory. The basic fabric is still there and will never change."

His self-penned obituary read as follows:

Ephraim Butler Moulton Jr. was the son of E. Butler Moulton, class of 1907, and nephew of Elizabeth Moulton Scott '14. He was president of Delta Phi and a lifetime member of the Nicholas Brown Society. His master's degree was from UCLA. He also studied at Columbia and New York universities.

His lifetime career was with Grace Line, the shipping subsidiary of W. R. Grace & Company, New York City, which later became the now-defunct Prudential Lines.

He was a member of the Sons of the Revolution of New York, involved with the preservation of Fraunces Tavern as a shrine to George Washington. He was also a member of the English-Speaking Union and the Metropolitan Opera Guild.

He is survived by his sister-in-law and the children and grandchildren of his brother.
