Brown football coach Phil Estes won his 100th game on October 11, when the Bears defeated Holy Cross, 27–24, on a twenty-three-yard field goal in double overtime.… Tricaptain Shannon McSweeney ’15 recorded nineteen saves and a shutout to lead the field hockey team to a 2–0 win over Providence College on October 13; the victory brought the Bears’ season record to 8–3.… The season record for men’s soccer moved to 3–4–4 on October 14 after the team played an away game against Boston College to a 1–1 tie.… The women’s soccer team improved its record to 5–5–3 on October 13 after it played a 1–1 tie against Marist.… Darren Eales ’95 was named president of the expansion Atlanta franchise of Major League Soccer, which will begin play in 2017.… Zak DeOssie ’07 is one of five captains for this season’s New York Giants, the fourth consecutive year he’s been chosen.… The Sports Illustrated website picked men’s basketball forward Leland King ’17 as one of five sophomores in the nation to watch for a breakout season.
