Former Brown rower Portia (Johnson) McGee '01 has been named to the U.S. Olympic team and will compete in the women's pair in Beijing... At the Eastern Sprints, the varsity crew won the Ivy League title with a time of 6:13.21, narrowly defeating Princeton... All nine members of the varsity eight—coxswain Rob O'Leary '09, stroke Scott Morgan '10, Colin Keogh '08, Gareth Seymour '09, Ben Duggan '10, Cole Bonner '10, Matt Wheeler '09, Chris Greene '08, and Paul Strombom '08—earned first- team All-Ivy honors... The U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association named goalie Jordan Burke '09 second-team All-American... The College Sports Information Directors of America named four Brown athletes as ESPN the Magazine Academic All-Americans: Designated hitter Conor Reardon '08 was a second-team baseball selection, and utility player J.J. Eno '08 was a third-team pick. Ryan Graddy '08, a history concentrator with a 4.0 GPA, made the second team for men's track & field. Pitcher Michelle Moses '09, who also boasts a 4.0, made the third team in softball... Tennis player Jamie Cerretani '04, currently ranked seventy-eighth in the world in doubles, won his first-round match at Wimbledon with doubles partner Victor Hanescu of Romania. The duo defeated Bruno Soares and Dusan Vemic on June 26 in four sets, but lost in three sets the next day in the second round‚ Chris Drake '03, who retired from the professional tour in October, was at Wimbledon serving as a coach. Drake, an assistant coach at Northwestern, helped guide the doubles team of Eric Butorac (USA) and Ashley Fisher (Australia) to a five-set victory in their first-round match... Roxanne Palmer '08, Emily Schwartz '08, Alexis Blaxberg '08, Rita Bullwinkel '11, Lauren Presant '10, Katherine Stanton '11, and Sarah Glick '10 earned Collegiate Water Polo Association All-Academic honors... Baseball's Steve Daniels '09, Conor Reardon '08, and Matt Colantonio '11 played in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association All-Star Game at Fenway Park... After serving as interim golf coach since March, Michael Hughes has been named head men's golf coach... Brynn Smith '11 of the women's track-and-field team competed in the shot put at the Division I NCAA Championships, placing twenty-sixth in the preliminaries.
