September brought a takeover of the Brown University Sports Foundation—or just the Sports Foundation, as the organization is more commonly known—but it was neither hostile nor fought off with a poison pill. The takeover was by a new generation of leaders. At the group’s September 28 board meeting, president Gordon Perry ’55 and vice president Elizabeth Chace ’59 stepped down after nine years and were replaced, respectively, by Ken O’Keefe ’76 and Paula Murray McNamara ’84.

O’Keefe, who retired two years ago as president and COO of Clear Channel Radio, is president and CEO of NewVen Partners, a private investment and consulting firm. McNamara, a former art history concentrator, is a director with Fidelity Investments. Both have long been prominent Brown volunteers.

As for Perry and Chace, they managed to double both the Sports Foundation’s endowment over the past eight years—it now stands at $45 million—and its level of annual giving. It’s a tough act for the young upstarts to follow.
