Visionary

September 28th, 2012

The May/June BAM highlighted the construction of the Box Office building in Providence (“The Shipping News”).

As the former mayor of that city, I saw firsthand the innovative work that went into designing this project and constructing a new building out of discarded corrugated-steel shipping containers. The work done by Joshua Brandt ’04 helped to revitalize an area of our city that otherwise might not have been the site of new developments.

It’s also important to acknowledge, however, the invaluable role played by Peter Gill Case ’83 in this project. The Box Office was Peter’s vision; he first conceived its design and oversaw its development from its groundbreaking through its finished construction. As someone who worked closely with him, I know that this project would not have been possible without the invaluable contributions that Peter made from start to finish.
