Med School HQ

December 7th, 2011

While I applaud the progress of Brown's medical school and its new headquarters, the "former headquarters of a costume jewelry manufacturer" meme wears thin to those of us (including three Brown alumni founders) who spent more than ten years building Cadre Technologies from nothing, occupying the same Richmond Street building that now houses the medical school, and growing it into a $50 million global company that occupied the entire building ("Home at Last," Elms, September/October). Of course, the jewelry-company-to-medical-school-transition story does suggest steady narrative of economic development rather than the reality of fits and setbacks that start-up tech companies have had in Providence and Rhode Island over the past thirty years.
