For the seventh time in fifteen years, the women's rowing team won the NCAA National Championship. The Bears came from behind in the final race of the day to narrowly defeat Stanford and claim the title. Brown and Stanford each finished with eighty-five team points, but the Bears' narrow victory over the Cardinal in the varsity eight race gave them the team championship.... Dom Starsia '74 set the record for most coaching victories in NCAA men's division I lacrosse history when his Virginia Cavaliers beat Cornell, 13–9, on their way to becoming NCAA champions.... Lindsay Gottlieb '99 was named head coach of women's basketball at UC Berkeley.... Women's rowing captain Casey Kelsey '11 and men's ice hockey captain Harry Zolnierczyk '11 were selected to the District I College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/Capital One Academic All-America At-Large teams.... Softball pitcher Kristie Chin '11 was named to the 2011 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District I softball second team, while baseball pitcher Heath Mayo '13 was a second-team selection.... Softball third baseman Stephanie Thompson '13 was named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I Northeast Region second team.... Twenty-two Brown sports earned 2010-11 NCAA Academic Progress Rate Public Recognition Awards, second best among all NCAA Division I schools.... Defenseman Peter Fallon '11 was selected a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) honorable mention All-American for the second time in his career.... Rower Petra Weiss '11 won the Elite 88 award for the 2011 NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championship for having the highest cumulative grade-point average of anyone participating in the finals at the NCAA's eighty-eight championships.... Track & field standouts Brynn Smith '11 and Craig Kinsley '11 advanced out of the NCAA East Regionals and qualified for the NCAA Championships meet hosted at Drake University in June. Smith represented the Bears in the hammer throw and Kinsley in the javelin.... At the 2011 Intercollegiate Racing Association National Championships, the men's rowing team finished fifth overall. The varsity eight took fifth place in the grand finals, while the varsity four secured a silver medal and the freshmen eight finished sixth.... In the twenty-second round of the Major League Baseball draft, the San Diego Padres chose baseball captain Matt Colantonio '11. He led the Bears this season with a .301 batting average.
